Shearing, sorting, scouring, carding, spinning, felting, knitting, weaving and more! We will talk about the history, the basics of grading, choosing fibers for your fiber art and being mill ready. Mill-onomics is an important aspect of fiber farming and fiber gathering. Let's dive deeper and talk about arts and what drives us to create. Why do we choose this fiber over another.
We will be going to camp in June for wool. Shearing, processing by hand, processing in the mill, grading, and finding the right fiber art for the fiber. We will gather at The Sheepwalk Ranch for a new experience that takes you out of the festival and yarn shop and straight to the farm for a chance to learn, share and create.
We will start at the very beginning with a little bit of history, hands on shearing, processing and sorting for projects, small gardens to large scale agriculture and anything in between. $100 pp with take aways to keep you motivated!
We start off the day with a proper fleece show ( https://texasfibergathering.com/fleece-show ) and give students a hands-on experience learning what makes one fleece better than another. Whether you produce or purchase, knowing what you are getting is important. The afternoon we will spin, weave and felt. Each project is tailored to this Camp day.
Let's elevate our experience now. We have gone from sheep to show, fleece to project...now let's get dirty with Eco and Natural effects. We have a special guest teacher who will help us explore the "eco" side of the "soil to soil" concept. We will keep the vats going all day. We will have little projects in between to keep your idea board full up this Summer!
Last Saturday is a culmination of what we have learned, where we have been and what's next for our fiber arts and farming industry. This is a great day for the budding homesteaders and practicing artists to gather and create a fabulous fourth Camp Day. Fiber will be at the ready and looms warped. Needles and hooks will be in position for those who want to try their hands at "knitwear" arts. Let's just say that it will be a fiber arts free for all!
